FREE LUNCH
Everything on the menu
2pm Sunday June 10
Lucky Dragon Restaurant, 418 Spadina
ALL WELCOME
I've checked it out and it looks legit. In fact, it looks like it's partially sponsored by the Ontario Arts Council.
Unfortunately I'm at a conference all day Sunday, so I'm going to miss it. I hope someone will go and then leave me a note telling me how it went.
The Cookbook Store just sent out its 2006 Best Seller list and CheapEats Toronto is on it! Yay!
Check out the rest of the list and Vikram Vij's Marinated Lamb Popsicles with Fenugreek Cream Curry on In The Kitchen.
If you've never visited The Cookbook Store in Toronto you are in for a treat. It's a specialty bookstore dedicated to all things great in food and drink. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and if you are ever looking for just the right cookbook, recipe or resource, The Cookbook Store is the place to turn. In April, The Cookbook Store will celebrate their 24th year at 850 Yonge St.
Lunch @ Ginger 2 - CheapEats Toronto pg. 74 where GT says:
"Space to spread out, booths and... the huge mural of lotuses on the main wall of the dining areas. I am particularly fond of the Grilled Pork Chop and Coconut Shrimp - the best coconut shrimp I have ever had in this price range."
"This reggae infused spot really makes you feel like you are in Jamaica... The menu is incredibly diverse, offering something for everyone... Of course you can get Roti ($5-7.50) - it wouldn't be Toronto's most famous Jamaican restaurant without those on offer."
For those of you wondering about the cover design differences: CheapEats Ottawa 2007 (expected in bookstores spring 2007) will use the new cover design too.

Whether ye be Cap'n or wench, land-lubber or cabin boy, thar be needs t' find a port t' fill yer belly and wet yer whistle with a drop of rum before the sun is over the yardarm.
Here be some ideas on where t' Eat Like a Pirate without spendin' all yer dubloons:
On the same page is a phone of Jude Law, lots of Cadbury chocolate and an ad for My Name is Earl. That puts us in pretty good company if you ask me.
I've been waiting for this article to run since the interview in March. Jo Ann and I went to 2 restaurants, talked for hours, and she took photos of our lunch and even a couple of the restaurateur serving us. But the article didn't run. So I waited.
Then Thursday Gerry called me on my cell to say a co-worker said we were in Metro. (So big thanks to him, because otherwise we wouldn't have known.)
By the time the message got passed along to me it was early afternoon I couldn't find a copy of the Metro anywhere. I looked and looked, then finally went online to see what they had written (read the article online here) I did finally find a print copy in the pile of papers at the back of Jet Fuel on Friday.
As it turns out, the food editor Aonghus Kealy called on Wednesday to get a cover shot and to let me know the article was running. However, the message didn't show up in my voicemail until this morning. Argh!

If you could write a book about anything, what would it be about?
Perhaps you've heard of these excellent restaurant guides written by a team of great people, all into food, all willing to share their opinions, and edited by your's truely...
(I've tried 5 times to get Amazon to load the bl**ping book cover for CheapEats Ottawa.)
